Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, January 15.

Barry-Murphy confirms two more are to leave

Cardiff City are set to sanction two further exits this month, with academy goalkeepers Jake Dennis and Ewen Griffiths both heading out on loan.

Bluebirds boss Brian Barry-Murphy confirmed the pair will be leaving temporarily in search of regular first-team football, a move which will further add to a growing list of departures from the club during a busy January.

“Jake Dennis and Ewen [Griffiths] will be going out on loan, so we can’t be left with two goalkeepers in the building for as many games in the season as we have left,” Barry-Murphy said.

The admission not only underlines Cardiff’s intention to send both young keepers out to develop, but also points to a wider reshaping of the club’s goalkeeping department, with Everton's Harry Tyrer expected to become the first signing once the transfer embargo is lifted. With Jak Alnwick already gone permanently and Dennis and Griffiths leaving on loan, Barry-Murphy’s comments all but confirm Ethan Horvath is not part of the club’s plans, with the head coach making clear Cardiff must recruit another senior goalkeeper to bolster their options.

Dennis and Griffiths will become the latest academy products to move on this month, as Barry-Murphy continues to trim the squad and prioritise pathways that provide young players with meaningful minutes.

Their exits follow confirmation that winger Tanatswa Nyakuhwa has joined Newport County on loan for the remainder of the season. The Wales Under-21 international will be targeting consistent game time at League Two level.

Midfielders Troy Perrett and Dakarai Mafico have also departed on loan to Yeovil Town. Youngsters Luey Giles and Will Spiers have similarly moved on, linking up with Eastleigh.

One departure already finalised on a permanent basis is that of goalkeeper Alnwick, who has completed a move to Huddersfield Town, further accelerating the overhaul of Cardiff’s goalkeeping unit.

More exits are expected before the window closes, with forward Michael Reindorf likely to head out on loan again after being recalled early from his spell at Newport County.

BBM: I hope Trott will stay beyond this season

Barry-Murphy also moved to clarify Cardiff’s position on Nathan Trott, insisting he is hopeful the goalkeeper will remain at the club beyond the end of the season.

Trott joined the Bluebirds on loan from Copenhagen with an option for the move to become permanent should Cardiff secure promotion.

However, the club’s pursuit of another goalkeeper — including interest in Everton’s Harry Tyrer — has prompted suggestions from some that the Bluebirds may be uncertain about whether Trott’s long-term future lies in south Wales.

Barry-Murphy played down that notion, making it clear the club’s desire is to keep the in-form stopper at Cardiff.

“I’m hopeful that Nathan can stay beyond this season,” he said.

Trott has enjoyed an outstanding start to life with the Bluebirds and has quickly established himself as a key figure in Barry-Murphy’s side. His form has not gone unnoticed, perhaps sparking a little concern among supporters that interest could arrive from clubs in higher divisions or from abroad when the summer window opens.

Boss' message to Nyakuhwa after sealing loan away

Barry-Murphy says the key factor behind Tanatswa Nyakuhwa’s loan move to Newport County was for the winger to gain regular first-team football, while allowing the head coach to analyse his performance against players currently in the Bluebirds squad.

Nyakuhwa has joined the League Two's bottom-placed side for the remainder of the season as Cardiff City continue to place an emphasis on player development through meaningful minutes at senior level.

“The most important thing was that he was going to get a really good chance to play,” Barry-Murphy said.

“For all the players, the number one priority is that they have a genuine chance to get in the teams that they’ve gone to.”

Barry-Murphy stressed that the move is not simply about sending players out on loan, but about challenging them to earn their place and experience the demands of regular football.

“Newport have their own needs and he has to do really well to earn the right to get in the team and stay in the team and feel what that’s like,” he added.

The Cardiff boss believes such moves also provide valuable feedback for the club when assessing its young talent.

“It gives us a chance to measure them against our own players when they go into those leagues and hopefully try and establish themselves as regular starters.”

Winger returns from loan

Cardiff youngster Morgan Wigley has returned to the Bluebirds following the conclusion of his loan spell at Barry Town United.

The academy player spent time with the Cymru Premier side as part of his development, gaining valuable senior experience before heading back to his parent club.

Barry Town United confirmed Wigley’s departure in a statement, thanking both the player and Cardiff City for their cooperation during the loan.

“We can confirm that Morgan Wigley has returned to parent club Cardiff City following the expiration of his loan,” the club said.

“We’d like to thank Morgan for all his efforts at the club and also thank Cardiff City for their support.”

It is likely Wigley, 21, will leave again this month, with his contract due to expire in the summer.

He scored three goals in 16 appearances for Barry.
