Injury update scuppers any reported Stoke City transfer interest - Stoke-on-Trent Live

Stoke City having such bad luck with injuries that even a supposed target is ruled out

Cody Drameh has been ruled out for at least a month in what would seemingly end any reported transfer interest from Stoke City.

The Hull City defender, aged 24, has been mentioned as a potential target as a quickfire spree of injuries left Mark Robins without left-backs Eric Bocat and Aaron Cresswell and right-back Junior Tchamadeu, as well as Ben Gibson, who was deputising at left-back.

It seemed at least like a link that made sense even if that is not quite the same as being true. Drameh - who has to compete with Hull captain Lewie Coyle for game time - has had talks about leaving, plus Hull need to sell for financial fair play reasons.

Drameh, who came through the ranks at Leeds United, has had positive reports on loan at Birmingham, Cardiff and Luton, where he won promotion to the Premier League in 2023.

But Drameh was forced off in extra-time of Hull's FA Cup third round tie against Blackburn Rovers last Sunday and it has been confirmed by HullLive today that he will probably be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Stoke have already brought in goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu this week, on loan from Southampton, after an injury to Viktor Johansson.

An update on Tcchamadeu's injury might offer a hint at whether Robins needs or would like to bring in another full-back this month. Bocat and Cresswell are hoping to come back soon.

Otherwise, Stoke's attention is likely to focus on the final third and finding a goal burst that can help push the Potters into the top six in a congested league table.
