An arrest has been made during searches for a missing man in the South West.

β€Œ

Craig Hurcombe 40, was last seen in the Gurney Slade area at around 6.20pm on Thursday, January 1.

β€Œ

He was originally reported missing on January 10 to Wiltshire Police, the county Craig lived in, but the investigation has been transferred to Avon and Somerset Police.

β€Œ

The force confirmed a man aged in his 40s has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning. The BBC is reporting that the arrest was on suspicion of murder.

Neighbourhood Policing Chief Inspector Andy Pritchard said: β€œWe have launched an investigation to establish where Craig is, and CCTV and dashcam footage will be crucial to our enquiries.

β€œWe are working with our colleagues at Wiltshire and Dorset Police and Craig’s family are being offered support.

β€Œ

β€œWe are remaining open-minded about the circumstances surrounding Craig’s disappearance; however, we have arrested a man in his forties and he remains in police custody. This allows us to question the man under caution and gather any evidence.

β€œWe are hoping anyone who may travel regularly along these routes or may have been travelling to or from friends or family over New Year period, may be able to help us.”

β€Œ

Avon and Somerset Police are now appealing to members of the public for help. Officers are asking for anyone with dashcam footage in and around Gurney Slade to get in contact with the force.

In particular, they would like footage from Roemead Road, Roemead Lane, Simbriss Road, Pound Lane, Galley Batch Lane, and Golf Links Lane captured between 6pm on Thursday, January 1 until 2am on Friday, January 2.

Officers are also appealing for footage in Roemead Road from 11pm on Monday, December 30 until 2am on Tuesday, December 31.

Police would like to talk to drivers of several vehcles which were in those areas at those times.

Craig is described as white, 5ft 9ins tall, of proportionate build, who may be wearing light-coloured trousers, with a dark jacket and beanie hat.
