Rio Ave say they have ended the loan spell of Nottingham Forest defender Eric da Silva Moreira early.
The 19-year-old was due to spend the season with the Reds' fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned club. However, he made just three league appearances for the Portuguese outfit - and all from the substitutes' bench.
Announcing the decision, Rio Ave said on their official website: "Rio Ave Futebol Clube β Futebol SAD informs that it has reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the termination of the loan of player Eric Moreira. Following this agreement between the two clubs, the athlete returns to the English team, where he will continue his sporting career.
"Rio Ave FC thanks Eric Moreira for all the professionalism, dedication and commitment shown during his time representing the club, and wishes him the greatest personal and professional success for the future."
Moreira joined Forest from St Pauli in the summer of 2024. He is under contract with the club until 2028.
The teenager has featured five times in the Garibaldi to date, including making two substitute appearances in the Premier League. Last season he also made two starts in the FA Cup, against Luton Town and Exeter City, during the Reds' run to the semi-finals.
It remains to be seen what happens next for Moreira. When he headed to Rio Ave on deadline day in the summer, Nuno Espirito Santo was still in charge at the City Ground. Since then, Forest have moved on to their third head coach of the campaign, with Sean Dyche now the man in charge after replacing Ange Postecoglou at the helm.
Moreira is capable of playing at right-back or as a winger. Full-back is an area the Reds could do with strengthening during the January window, but it is on the left where they may need reinforcements amid suggestions Oleksandr Zinchenkoβs loan from Arsenal could be cut short.
