Wearers rave about the 'instant connection' to iPhones

Tech accessories often come with a high price but in a rare bargain, Apple fans have found one deal offering a popular accessory for a fraction of the usual price. As AirPods fall below £70.

For £69 Apple fans can buy the 2nd Gen pair of earphones from Wowcher, a deal which is being snapped up consumers as the listing shows 'selling fast'. It's likely because these older pair first launched in 2019, but at a price of £199, £130 less than the in-demand deal.

While they're not the latest edition of AirPods, the pair have long been picked for their Apple integration, and fast pairing between users' devices thanks to the H1 Chip hidden within. A perk shoppers have rated, saying they offer 'convenient' use and 'instant connection' with iPhones.

One shopper rated them five stars on Amazon and said: "The sound quality is crystal clear, with deep bass and sharp highs, making everything from music to podcasts a joy to listen to. The seamless connection with my iPhone is super convenient—just open the case, and they connect instantly."

Unlike Amazon's £80 for a renewed pair, Wowcher is offering a better 42% reduction compared to the launch price. The graded 'As-New A++ Condition' AirPods are also refurbished, but haven't necessarily been used before.

As Wowcher explains, they are 'excess warranty stock'. In the listing, the retailer highlights the condition of the AirPods: "Completely untouched, factory-fresh, and in perfect condition — just a smarter way to buy brand new. Fully functional, thoroughly inspected, and looks new."

Refurbished tech is becoming popular in a bid to keep prices down, and it's seen brands like Bose also venture into the second-hand market. Quiet Comfort Ultra headphones usually go for more than £400, but opting for a certified refurbished pair from Bose cuts the price to £289.

The AirPods can be used with various Apple devices, including iPad and iPhones, as long as it runs on iOS 10 or later. Because of the hidden H1 chip inside of the AirPods the sound is crisp too, a feature picked up by users.

One Amazon shopper rated the sound, saying: "Love these, so clear and loud, use them for my walks". Another called the sound quality 'superb'. However, there is a downside to the pair we are flagging to shoppers.

Do not expect the highest-quality tech, as these were released seven years ago. Since then, pairs like the AirPods 4 have been released with better features that these AirPods 2nd Gen from Wowcher don't have - like the improved H2 chip on the 2025 pair, which brings improved sound.

The AirPods 4, available to buy for £119 from both Currys and Amazon, also have the perk of Spatial Audio and Adaptive EQ - features which help make sound appear surround, and adapt to wearers' ears for better quality listening.
