The island is perfect for anyone looking for a life off-grid

It goes without saying that London is overall the most expensive city to buy a home in the whole of the UK. In fact, in some parts of the country you could get a detached four-bedroom property for the price of a garage or a parking spot in the capital.
β
But now, in a very rare opportunity, you can purchase an entire island off the coast of Scotland for more or less the same price as a one-bedroom flat in London. Whatβs more is that the island even has its own lighthouse.
β
Estate agency Knight Frank have listed Pladda Isle , which is situated off the southern Scottish coast of Arran, for Β£350,000. Its lighthouse dates back to the year 1790, when it was first lit to help mariners navigate the seas between Scotland and Ireland.

With approximately 28 acres of land, in addition to the lighthouse the island includes a larger five-bedroom accommodation with two reception rooms, as well as a smaller, separate accommodation that includes a bedroom, shower room, kitchen with sitting room.
β
Around 2.5 acres of the land is a walled garden covered in grass but was previously used by former lighthouse keepers to grow fruit and vegetables. Six acres of grazing land also makes the island ideal to host livestock.
The island is largely remote, but services can be found in the village of Kildonan on the Isle of Arran, around 15 minutes away by boat. Of course, the island has its own jetty and boathouse, and even better, its own helipad.
β
However, while the price for the island might be alluring, anyone with dreams of moving there and living off the land should keep in mind that theyβd need an additional budget to do a bit of fixing up. According to Knight Frank, the accommodation has not been used in recent years and needs to be upgraded.
While the island also offers some amazing views and the chance to watch hundreds of species of migratory seabirds that frequently visit the island, potential buyers would also need to keep in mind the weather.
Skies are often cloudy, and temperatures rarely rise above 19C in the summer and can drop below 0C in the winter. Saying that, the island certainly offers an alternative way of living for anyone who wants to live off-grid.
