The alleged secret daughter of Freddie Mercury, who was reportedly born following a rumoured liaison with the wife of one of his friends, has died aged 48.

The Queen frontman's supposed child, known only as B, maintained her anonymity throughout her life, but her widower has now confirmed to the Mail Online that she has sadly died from a rare form of cancer.

Her widower stated: "[She died] peacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer, leaving two sons aged nine and seven".

He revealed that her ashes have been scattered in the Alps and she is now "with her beloved and loving father".

B's link to Mercury is believed to have remained hidden for decades, with author Lesley Ann Jones making the explosive revelations.

Jones alleged that Freddie referred to the woman as Bibi, with Queen bandmates and Mercury's relatives all aware of her existence but never publicly acknowledging her.

Following her death, it is understood that her family are contemplating releasing photographs of her with the legendary singer, as during her life she wished to stay out of the spotlight to safeguard her medical career.

Her account is detailed in Jones' book entitled Love Freddie, which was released last year. The book also states that B's cancer developed during childhood, and throughout their four-year collaboration on the publication, her health had progressively deteriorated.

Jones continued: "It's the real reason why the family relocated quite frequently, so that they could access the best treatment at the time for chordoma: a rare form of spinal cancer that was always going to kill her."

The book further alleges that B was brought up by another family, though Freddie maintained regular contact, visiting frequently right up until his death in 1991.

Whilst Freddie never publicly disclosed his sexuality during his lifetime, those closest to him were well aware he was gay or bisexual, with the star preferring to keep his personal affairs out of the spotlight.

The Queen frontman did have romantic relationships with women, most notably with Mary Austin, whom he described as the "love of his life" and who knew about B's existence.

In a letter penned by B, she wrote: "Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life.

"He adored me and was devoted to me. The circumstances of my birth may seem, by most people's standards, unusual and even outrageous.

"That should come as no surprise. It never detracted from his commitment to love and look after me. He cherished me like a treasured possession."

Whilst many have questioned the validity of their connection, B has insisted she underwent a DNA test to verify their father-daughter relationship, evidence which Jones says formed part of her research. In a social media post addressing sceptics, Jones penned: "To those 'demanding' to see proof of a DNA test, otherwise they won't believe it – please rest assured that the requisite verification was obtained, legal teams have been involved, but that such measures are private and not shared publicly."
