It's the X Factor semi final and things are getting serious.

Tonight will see all of the remaining six contestants come together for the first time ever as they battle it out for a place in next week's final.

Until now, two categories have faced off against each other on Saturdays, with the other two going head-to-head on Sundays.

β€Œ

The acts with the lowest number of audience votes on both nights have been sent home immediately, with no sing-off and no judges' decision, while the best performing acts from both nights have battled it out for a 'priceless' prize, such as a masterclass with Pink and time in the studio with the world's best songwriters.

But now, it's all set to change.

In tonight's semi-final, all of the acts will sing for their place in the final, and for the first time, they'll each have the chance to sing twice over the weekend.

This week's theme is Cool Britannia, which will see the hopefuls celebrate the best of British music.

Last week saw Holly Tandy, Rai-Elle Williams, Sam Black and brothers Sean and Conor Price were sent home in two shock double eliminations.

Rai-Elle promised that this would not be the last that fans had seen of her.

While Holly, who was left in tears, thanked the judges and the public for their support.

It was a tough night for Sharon, who lost two of her three remaining acts.

There was a lot of disappointment in the studio after the eliminations, and even Simon himself questioned the decision to kick two acts out of the competition.

Speaking after the result was revealed, Sean said: "We’ve had a great time, we never expect to come so far in the competition. Every weekend, every minute is a highlight for me."

A gutted Sam said: "I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s voted for me, thank you Simon, Louis is the best judge, I’ve had a great time."

Mocking himself, Simon joked: "Whose idea was it to do a double elimination?"
