Steph McGovern was left battered and almost concussed following a horrifying accident during the filming of new adventure reality show Celebrity Bear Hunt.

The 42-year-old television presenter is one of the 12 stars taking part in Bear Grylls and Holly Willoughby's new Netflix reality show that is seen as a mix of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. The show sees the celebrity contestants on the run in a jungle environment while survivalist Bear, 50, attempts to track them down.

But disaster struck during the filming of the series in Costa Rica - with Steph reportedly getting injured while taking part in a daring trial. It has been revealed that the former Steph's Packed Lunch host smashed into the side of a rock face while trying to navigate her way down the side of a cliff.

Steph bashed her nose and was left in agony following the incident - that also sparked concerns she had been concussed. The scenes were so distressing that host Holly, 43, was left close to tears as she watched on.

A source told The Sun: "Not only was it terrifying for Steph, but for everyone watching - cast, crew and Holly included. Holly was visibly shaken and close to tears, and at one point could be seen covering her face with her hands.

"It was touch and go about whether Steph would have to leave on medical grounds, so she was monitored for the next 24 hours. But Steph is a trooper - she was determined to stay and luckily for her, she was given the green light to continue." The Mirror has contacted representatives of Steph and Netflix for comment.

The official Netflix synopsis for the show reads: "Holly Willoughby hosts this competition show set in the Costa Rican jungle, where 12 celebrities become prey for legendary survival expert, Bear Grylls." The cast include a wide range of recognisable TV stars - from a Strictly judge to an X Factor judge and more.

Alongside Steph, fans will see interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, OnlyFans model Lottie Moss, rugby ace Danny Cipriani, Victoria's Secret model Leomie Anderson, tennis star Boris Becker, Ted Lasso actor Kola Bokinni, The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas, rapper Zuhair 'Big Zuu' Hassan, Spice Girl Mel B, The Saturdays singer Una Healy, and Strictly's Shirley Ballas attempting to avoid detection.

Details of the new reality show from Netflix - who used to be known for making cutting edge drama - first began to emerge in early 2024. TV fans were underwhelmed by the news of the show, with many writing it off as an unnecessary I'm A Celeb style reality show.

And now with the series just days away from becoming available to stream, it seems attitudes to the show have not warmed. Many have taken to social media to decry the streaming giant for churning out a reality-show-by-numbers production.

One lamented on X: "This looks beyond stupid. Netflix has lost its way. Stop with the dumb fake reality shows." Others blasted the streaming giant for creating a show that could have easily been made for the likes of ITV or Channel 4 - with one sighing: "@netflix - so a rip off of celebrity hunted... so original @Channel4."

Another wrote: "More s**te reality cr*p. No thanks." One typed: "What a trash Netflix" alongside a vomit face emoji, and many others complained about the line-up - with one writing: "I know Mel B. Who the hell are these other 'celebrities?'” Celebrity Bear Hunt begins streaming on Netflix on 5 February.
