Netflix's latest thriller Run Away is now ready to binge-watch with subscribers immersing themselves in the gripping series over the festive period.
β
The brainchild of author and executive producer Harlan Coben, Run Away made its debut on Netflix on New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1, quickly climbing to the top of the streaming platform's most-watched list.
β
The eight-part limited series begins with a desperate search by father Simon Greene (portrayed by James Nesbitt) for his missing daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange), only to find her six months later living as a homeless drug addict.
The plot thickens in episode six when Dee Dee (Maeve Courtier-Lilley), a member of a murderous cult, orchestrates the shocking killing of Elena Ravenscroft (Ruth Jones).
However, it's in the second-to-last episode that Simon confronts Dee Dee and Ash (Jon Pointing). In a dramatic turn of events, Ash is fatally shot and Dee Dee is hurled off a balcony by an unknown member of the Shining Haven cult.
β
So, how does Harlan Coben's Run Away reach its thrilling conclusion?

Shining Haven
As Simon is rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound, he informs Detective Inspector Fagbenle (Alfred Enoch) about the cult, suspecting they have Paige in their clutches.
β
Despite a police raid on the cult's headquarters, Paige remains elusive. However, Fagbenle is resolute in his mission to apprehend the cult leader Casper Vartage, who is implicated in numerous disappearances and several abuse allegations.
Casper was on the brink of taking a pill to end his life and evade jail, but luckily, Fagbenle managed to intervene in time and apprehend the dangerous cult leader.
Fagbenle later visits Simon in hospital and discloses that Aaron was actually one of many children fathered by Casper and put up for adoption because he didn't consider them "divine".
β
Aaron secretly discovered he had several half-brothers and made contact with them.
Casper, who was terminally ill, wanted to pass on the cult and his wealth to his two "divine" sons. So when he found out his other sons were now communicating, he needed to eliminate them.
Casper didn't want them interfering with what he'd built, so he hired Dee Dee and Ash to act as hitmen and kill them off one-by-one.
β
Henry Thorpe, the missing man Elena was investigating, was one of Aaron's half-brothers, and it is subtly revealed that he too was killed.
Simon then meets cult member Mother Adiona, who was the one to push Dee Dee off the balcony. She shares that she couldn't support Casper's plan to murder his sons and had to stop it.
Paige
β
Months pass and Simon has fully recovered. During a visit to see Ingrid (Minnie Driver) in hospital, he encounters Paige.
It turns out that Paige was in rehab the entire time without access to her phone, so she was oblivious to what was happening until someone informed her that Ingrid had been shot.
She continues by revealing to Simon that she discovered Aron's lifeless body at their flat and fled the scene, fearing she would be blamed for his death.
β
Paige chose to seek refuge at a rehabilitation centre, a place she had visited previously without Simon's knowledge.
Under questioning, Paige confesses that Ingrid had taken her to rehab before, as she too had battled drug addiction in her youth - yet another secret Simon was unaware of.
However, he spots inconsistencies in her account and questions whether she sought help from Ingrid after Aaron had assaulted her, which she confirms she had.
β
Paige then returned to rehab, but upon coming back to the flat, she found Aaron dead.
She came to the realisation that Ingrid had actually killed Aaron to shield Paige from harm.
Fortunately, Ingrid eventually emerges from her coma, and when Simon confronts her about the situation, she expresses remorse and explains she hadn't wanted to drag him into it, knowing they would both be in trouble.

Ingrid
Everyone has moved on but something continues to trouble Simon.
He couldn't understand why there were two separate mattresses in Paige and Aaron's flat instead of a shared double bed.
β
During the same discussion, whilst talking about Doug Mulzer's assault, Paige reveals that Aaron was indeed the masked attacker, but this doesn't ring true for Simon.
This is because Doug had told him that his assailant had shouted: "No one hurts my sister."
In a shocking turn of events, Paige discovered through a university project on a genealogy site that Aaron was her half-brother, revealing Ingrid as their mother.
β
Confused, Simon visited his sister-in-law Yvonne's house to find a photograph that Ingrid had previously kept hidden from him.
The picture depicted a pregnant Ingrid standing in front of The Shining Haven symbol, suggesting she was also a member of the cult and that Aaron was her son with Casper.
Paige confronted Ingrid about having another child before her, but Ingrid believed he was stillborn. Paige didn't accept this explanation, which is why she initially ran away.
While Simon is keen to avoid any more secrets, he and Paige agree not to tell Ingrid that she killed her own son, knowing it would devastate her.
