Singer Liam Payne took to the stage on Saturday night's X Factor live show to perform his latest song, Bedroom Floor.

And all eyes were on the 24-year-old and his girlfriend Cheryl , who was sitting in the front row of the audience to cheer on her babydaddy.

But it was Liam's weird stage exit that had all tongues wagging - not his, as some called it, lacklustre performance - as the show wrapped up.

As host Dermot O'Leary wrapped up the show from centre stage, Liam made a beeline for Cheryl, 34, - and he didn't care whether he was interrupting the whole taping.

He went to exit to the back of stage, but once he realised he couldn't get out, he circled back around Dermot and went down the front steps.

Understandably the crowd lost their minds and started screaming as Liam descended the steps, made his way around the judges panel and grabbed Cheryl from the front row to make a hasty exit before the rest of the crew.

Dermot asked: "Where's he going?" before having no choice but to stand on the stage in silence, looking awkwardly to the camera as he waited for the couple to leave and for the crowd's excitement to die down.

Perhaps Liam wanted to make sure Cheryl left with him, after he made a cheeky comment earlier in the piece about having to 'keep and eye on Myles because he fancies his missus.'

Dermot asked him to name his favourite of the competition so far.

He first said he thought "Kelvin [Davey White] is good and I think Rai-Elle did a great job of opening the show."

Liam then pointed to Myles and said: "And him, he fancies my missus so I’ve got to keep an eye on him!"

He then winked to the audience, showing his comments were all in jest.

Cheryl was on hand to lend support to her partner and father of her baby, Bear.

But she was also there to represent as right hand woman to judge Simon Cowell , who was absent from tonight's show after being rushed to hospital after collapsing in his London home on Friday.

It caused several people to wonder why the Girls Aloud singer didn't just step in for her friend on the judging panel.
