Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has admitted that some of the steamy scenes in her new Channel 5 thriller were 'toned down' by producers because the edits were too risqué

Kym Marsh has stripped off for some very risqué sex scenes in her latest role in a new Channel 5 thriller, The Imposter. The former Corrie star, 49, plays scheming Amanda in the new series, which also stars Dannii Minogue, and revealed she spent many a scene "barely dressed".
Speaking about the new four-part series, the Waterloo Road actress revealed the second episode is "particularly raunchy" because it includes some very steamy flashbacks to her time in London when she first met her Australian lover. "There was quite a lot of stuff that I believe they’ve had to tone down," she said. "I spoke to the executive working on it and he said, ‘Hey, you did it so convincingly’, and I was like . . . thanks."
Kym and her co-star Don Hany (who plays her lover Simon) worked with an intimacy coach to film the sauciest scenes, which were filmed with a blue tint and aired just minutes into the second instalment.
Mum of three Kym, who turns 50 in June, praised the show's cast and crew for putting her at ease on set, but admitted she was initially hesitant to strip off on camera because her body confidence has dipped as she has aged.
"I’ve done a few things on stage but they are very tame in comparison to this role," she told The Sun on Sunday. "There was a little bit of nerves, but honestly, as soon as I set foot on set, I was totally relaxed because they really made me feel so much better about everything."
Viewers seem to be impressed so far with Kym's portrayal of Amanda, who is the secret love child of family matriarch Helen, played by Australian actress Jackie Woodburne, known to many as Susan Kennedy in Neighbours. Taking to X, one person said she "acted her part beautifully", and another said she made a convincing and "good baddie".
It is not the first time the former Hear'Say singer has played a particularly unsavoury character though. In 2022 she was cast as "bunny boiler" Alex Forrest in the stage production of Fatal Attraction, and in January she will take on the role of flatmate-from-hell Hedra in the theatre remake of Single White Female.
Chatting about leaning more into the darker roles, Kym said recently the roles "couldn't be more different" from her real personality, joking, "It’s as though producers think: ‘Who can we get to play this evil, deranged character? I know, Kym Marsh.’”
In the interview with The Telegraph, Kym also addressed the issue of sexism and ageism in the acting industry, and said she was pleased to see some of it lessening. "There used to be a point as an actress that, when you reached 30, you’re deemed not sexy anymore," she added. "So at least that’s changing."
