Jermaine Jenas is in talks over a return to radio - just a month after the BBC axed his TV roles for a sexting scandal. The former footballer is eyeing a new role at talkSPORT.

It is the same station he awkwardly appeared live on as a guest just moments after allegations of β€˜inappropriate behaviour" became public on August 22.

β€Œ

A source last night told the Mirror: "Jermaine has already held meetings with talkSPORT bosses and both sides are hopeful of agreeing a deal.

β€Œ

"He knows he has done wrong, but it shouldn't stop him from having a career in the media. "He's keen to get his life back on track and returning to work is a key part of that." Sources said ex-Spurs and QPR ace Jenas is likely to be a pundit rather than having his own programme.

The dad-of-four was axed from his roles on The One Show and Match of the Day with the BBC, where he earned Β£190,000 for his football punditry.

He admitted sending messages to female colleagues on The One Show and apologised to the women who received them.

And in an exclusive interview with the Mirror, his dad Dennis, 63, revealed said the star was desperate to save his marriage to his wife of 13 years, Ellie, admitting his sacking had left him in a mess emotionally.

The football coach also backed his son saying he believed he had been treated harshly by the BBC, who reformed workplace culture guidelines following the Huw Edwards and Strictly Come Dancing scandals.

The former newsreader quit before he pleaded guilty to having indecent images of children.

There is no suggestion Jenas sent any messages to minors, but critics have claimed that he, like Edwards, was in a position of power thanks to his Beeb role when he sent texts that were described as β€œsuggestive”.

Our revelation comes after the former England, Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder posted a message on Instagram earlier this week vowing to "grow" and "learn" from the sexting scandal. And he also hinted at a return to football broadcasting.

β€Œ

In the video to his 211,000 followers, he said: "Listen, some exciting stuff that I've been working on, so you'll all have that to look forward to very soon. Hopefully I'll be back talking about what I love, which is football.

"I've been living the life of those Spurs fans - up and down, up and down. Forest getting great results at Anfield and playing well.

β€Œ

"So I've been watching, but I'm looking forward to getting back and talking about what I love most. So last of all, thank you very much and I'll see you soon."

Jenas, who lives in an Β£8million mansion in North London, added: "It's clearly been a difficult period for me, but one that I'll definitely grow from. We're human beings, that's what it is.

"You'll learn from it. You'll become a better person. Those are the things that are important in life.

β€Œ

"None of us are perfect and we've just got to find a way to keep moving forward, look after our babies and our families in the best way we possibly can.

"That's something that I'll be trying to do. Mainly [I wanted to say] thank you, really. It's been really nice, the level of support you've shown me."

TalkSPORT has previously provided a lifeline for other scandal-hit broadcasters.

Richard Keys and Andy Gray presented a TalkSPORT show from Qatar after they left Sky Sports after making sexist and derogatory comments, including about female assistant referee Sian Massey.

Russell Brand also hosted a show on the station just months after he left the BBC following the Sachsgate scandal.

A talkSPORT spokesperson claimed: "There have been no conversations with Jermaine since he last appeared on talkSPORT, and there are no plans for Jermaine to broadcast on talkSPORT in the immediate future."
