Kemi Rodgers has revealed that she had been dating her new boyfriend, Thomas Hannett, for nearly a year before she confirmed their relationship in public. The TV star, 30, hard launched the news that she and her Capital FM producer were together in September when she posted snaps of their romantic trip to Paris onto social media, but has now admitted that they were actually together this time last year.
The radio presenter and former Mirror journalist, who is currently heading up the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! spin-off show Unpacked alongside Joel Dommett in Australia, was asked how she feels about being temporarily long-distance and revealed that this is actually the second time they have had to do it.
She told The Mirror: "We're gonna have a little bit of a holiday at the end of the show, which I'm so excited to see him. But the thing is, is we were actually together last year when I did the show. And of course, he didn't come out for the entire run. Yeah, it's long distance, but it's only long distance for like a month.
"There's people who have partners who will go for months at a time for work or live in different parts of the country. Um, so like my heart goes out to them, so I can't say that I've suffered at all. So yeah, lots of FaceTimes, lots of messages, and then, yeah, very excited to be reunited with him. What a little cutie!"
One thing Kemi does miss while she is out in Australia, however, is the traditional English build-up to Christmas. She said: "I miss the Christmas spirit. I actually, literally 20 minutes before I got picked up to fly out here, I stuffed a mince pie in my gob, and I ate it so quickly because even though there's Christmas over here, there's no Christmas spirit. I'm not hearing any Christmas music; everything's like sunny.
"I'm not seeing any Christmas trees. I think one thing the Brits do so well, and of course, like colder nations would, is run up to Christmas, like being in the pub with your mates with a red wine, like mulled wine, going to a Christmas market.
"There's like none of the Christmas lead up, which I would argue is probably more fun than actual Christmas day. So it's so weird because when I come back, it'll be a few days before Christmas and then you'll suddenly be plunged into darkness, plunged into cold, see Christmas lights everywhere. So Christmas kind of comes and goes very quickly, like... I don't know, you don't have all the Christmas parties, and going out Christmas shopping, and looking at the lights.
"Listen, this is not woe is me, at all. But I just say, it's just like a different vibe. So it is quite nice to just like, be essentially like parachute landed, like slap bang into Christmas. But I guess, yeah, I'm gonna miss the mince pies. I'm going to try and find some over here. I'll see if they exist!"
It all comes after Kemi posted a short video shared on her Instagram page, Kemi and her boyfriend, Thomas Hannett, were in Paris having a drink at a low-key restaurant as they enjoyed the weather.
They used the famous TikTok audio featuring a person's voice saying: "Are you happy to be in Paris?", which Thomas lip-synced before Kemi, 30, said: "Oui." In the caption, she wrote: "Wine drunk in Paris and thought the best way to hard launch my boyfriend on the grid was with the iconic Nicki Minaj 'Oui' video loooooool.
She added: "Full bottle of sancerre in the sun truly is the key to my heart." Friends and fans were delighted by the launch and took to the comment section to congratulate the pair. One pal wrote: "The hard launch we’ve all been waiting for," and another said: "Finally."
Sonny Jay posted: "Très bien," while one fan commented: "City of Love? I see what you did there."
