Graham Norton has admitted that he would only agree to appear on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! if he was in desperate need of cash. The TV favourite, 62, has made a career out of hosting his eponymous chat show, talent searches, radio programmes and Eurovision over the years but has never taken part in a reality show like Strictly Come Dancing, or the jungle, as a contestant.
The launch of the latest series of the ITV survival programme, which has counts showbiz legends like Kerry Katona, Katie Price and Caitlyn Jenner amongst its many former contestants, is just weeks away from kicking off and a whole host of new famous faces will deal with life in the Australian jungle for three weeks.
In the build-up to it the Ant and Dec-fronted show, the bestselling author has explained that it tends to be the programme celebrities sign up for if they need a quick boost with their finances, and that would be the only reason he would sign up for it as well. He said: "One day when my roof blows off or a big tax bill comes and I have to do I’m A Celebrity!
"You know cos I think there comes a time in most people’s lives when they kind of go, ‘I’m going to have to do that, I’m going to have to say yes to that for the money.‘"
During a chat with his friend Maria McErlane on their Wanging On podcast, Grahamjoked that if he were to take part in it, he would not take part in any of the grisly Bushtucker Trials for more than a minute, regardless of his starving campmates.
He added: “I’m going to go, ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!’ within a second of every single challenge, and let them starve – I don’t care!
“I don’t want to resurrect my career, I just want a quick injection of cash, that’s all I want.”
Just a few days ago, a special teaser trailer launched with a Halloween and spooky inspired twist. On top of a festive scene with stockings hung on the chimney and Christmas cards displayed, a traditional festive poem was read out.
The narrator said: "Twas the night in October, and all through the house creatures were stirring, and I don't mean a mouse," as a spider crept across the scene. It was teased the show was three weeks away, meaning we are looking at a start date of November 16th. This lines up with usual dates for the ITV jungle show, which always wraps up in the early weeks of December
A number of famous faces have been rumoured for the ITV show this year including Emmerdale star Lisa Riley and EastEnders icon Shona McGarty. Tommy Fury has also been lined up for the programme, it has been claimed.
Denise van Outen is also rumoured as is boxing star Conor Benn, comedian Ruby Wax, former footballer and TV presenter Alex Scott. Vogue Williams is also rumoured for the show, years after her husband and Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews was removed from camp after three days back in 2015 because he was taking steroids and didn't tell producers beforehand.
Fans will remember that last year, McFly star Danny Jones was the winner of I'm A Celebrity, finishing ahead of Coleen Rooney, who was in second place, and Reverend Richard Coles, who placed third in the public vote.
Speaking to The Mirror about being reunited with his family, he said: "It was the most beautiful moment of my entire life. I remember Cooper’s little smile and his little face which was so excited to see me…it was just pure love and emotion ...
"I Facetimed Dougie [Poynter, his bandmate] and he said to me something that I would never have thought would come out of his mouth. He went, ‘mate, I'm so proud of my best mate, and every time I watched you, I just had tears in my eyes."
