The movie sequel on TV tonight follows on from a huge blockbuster success, and yet fans of the film series can't help but feel like it's criminally 'underrated'

It can be hard for any sequel to meet the expectations of fans after the first film was a box office hit, but a lot of fans seem to agree that this film did it justice – and it's screening on ITV tonight.
Released in 1990, Predator 2 is the follow-up to its famed first film, Predator, a science fiction film jam-packed with action and ideal for a midweek movie night in. Set a whole 10 years after the first film, its story follows a disgruntled police officer in Los Angeles as they fight against the now more technologically advanced extraterrestrial predator.
Starring in the sci-fi action movie is Hollywood legend Danny Glover, alongside Kevin Peter Hall, who reprises his role as the terrifying Predator. Set in 1997 during a major heatwave and a violent drug war, Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, played by Glover, begins to investigate the unusual and shocking murders of these gang members across the city.
It's not long before he pieces the puzzle together and unveils that the killer is an alien creature. Although, a government agent is doing all he can to keep his discovery under wraps and be the first to capture the killer, resulting in a brutal showdown.
A viewer took to IMDB to share their thoughts on the film: "I enjoyed Predator 2 and thought Glover did a great job. He must have known that stepping into the Governator's shoes was going to be tough going. He nonetheless puts in a great performance, hunting down the alien game hunter basically all by himself. Some great action sequences and other memorable scenes – the finale showdown is as spectacular as you would imagine. It's hard to follow in the footsteps of a film as iconic as Predator was, but Predator 2 is, I feel, unfairly maligned."
Meanwhile, another impressed fan said the film is "extremely underrated". They wrote: "Predator-1 had more Arnie than Predator. This movie simply has more Predator. It also greatly expanded the Predator universe and franchise. It introduced a whole new bunch of Pred weapons, tactics and behaviour which never ever seemed out of place and were perfect fits."
They finished by saying: "The urban setting contrasts against the previous jungle setting and is a major plus for this movie. This movie was also extremely realistic and gory. All in all, this movie is fantastic, and a few ignorant critics just want to bring it down by comparing it with the uniqueness of the original."
One passionate fan of the film defended it by writing: "Yes, you may not agree with me, but I think that Predator 2 was as good as Predator, and it even had something the first movie lacked: more screen time for the Predator. The Predator movies are a fanboy's dream come true, as the Predator is arguably the best alien on film."
