Apple TV's acclaimed crime drama Down Cemetery Road has been officially renewed for a second season.

Adapted from Mick Herron's 2003 novel (the author behind Slow Horses), the eight-episode series was crafted by writer Morwenna Banks and debuted to rave reviews in October this year.

Emma Thompson takes centre stage as private detective Zoë Boehm, enlisted by museum conservator Sarah Trafford (played by Ruth Wilson) to probe the vanishing of a young woman on the same evening a puzzling blast takes place.

Shot mainly across Oxford and Bristol, the production also utilised the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Polperro and Holywell Bay near Newquay as breathtaking locations for this captivating thriller.

The series garnered widespread praise following its launch, with the first season concluding and its nail-biting finale broadcasting on Wednesday, 10th December, reports the Express.

Apple TV's renewal announcement hailed the show as "one of the best thrillers of the decade", branding it "riveting, dark, and wildly entertaining".

The streaming giant added: "The 'twisty, nerve-racking ride' is a 'delectable blend of intrigue and jokes', with an 'impeccable cast' led by 'excellent performances' from the 'dynamic pair' of Thompson and Wilson."

Thompson, who also serves as executive producer, commented: "I'm so thrilled that Down Cemetery Road has been enjoyed enough to warrant a second season.

"The thought of working with the team again, with wonderful Morwenna Banks in the writer's seat and the indomitable Ruth Wilson who is the best and most brilliant co-star any aging Dame could desire, is frankly far more than I feel I deserve," she gushed.

"Zoë Boehm is a punkishly delicious avatar and I can't wait to pull on her knock-off Doc Martens again. Thanks to everyone who watched! We are go for the next one and it's all down to you."

Jay Hunt, Creative Director for Apple TV Europe, chimed in: "Audiences around the world fell in love with Down Cemetery Road and I am glad the unlikely duo of Zoë and Sarah will be back with their unique form of acerbic wit."

Fans are in for a treat as Apple TV has released an intriguing synopsis for Zoë and Sarah's upcoming chilling investigation, promising another captivating mystery.
