The beloved series All Creatures Great and Small was revived by Channel 5 in 2020, providing some much-needed light-hearted, family-friendly viewing during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, UK fans can look forward to the first season landing on Netflix on August 14.

This recent adaptation follows the BBC series from the late 70s, both drawing inspiration from the writings of Yorkshire vet Alf Wight. His book collection is based on his real-life experiences caring for animals in the countryside.

In the 2020 reboot, Nicholas Ralph takes on the role of James Herriot, with Rachel Shenton as Helen Alderson and Samuel West playing James' boss, Siegfried Farnon. Fans will recognise that some of the cast had to adopt northern accents for their parts.

Now in its fifth season, All Creatures has largely returned to the same filming locations each year, with a few new hidden gems added as the characters' storylines evolve.

Here's everything you need to know about where the first season was filmed, ahead of its Netflix release, reports the Express.

Most of the first season was shot in the Yorkshire Dales, specifically Nidderdale, with the village of Grassington transformed into the fictional Darrowby.

In Grassington, the Devonshire Inn pub was made over into the Drovers Arms, while the interior pub scenes were filmed at The Green Dragon Inn at Hardraw.

The quaint village bakery, known as Walker's, stood in for Darrowby Cycles in the charming series, while a private house was transformed into Skeldale House for outside snapshots of the vet's practice.

Also getting a fictional makeover, The Stripey Badger bookstore was repurposed into G F Endleby's greengrocer's shop, and the Helen Midgley shoe store became the setting for Handleys Booksellers. Meanwhile, whimsical finds usually spotted in the Rustic Rabbit gift shop were replaced with loaves for Higgins Bakers on screen.

Distinguished actress Diana Rigg brought to life the quirky character of Mrs Pumphrey, with her on-screen home segments taking place at the majestic Broughton Hall in Craven.

Series stars Nicholas and Rachel had an exclusive chat with Express.co.uk and other press, revealing the locals' excitement when the filming crew descends upon their turf.

Rachel illuminated the situation with a bit of wit saying: "It is like doing theatre, having a live audience! " And elaborating on the warm reception, Nicholas added: "It is lovely, everyone is so lovely, and if it is a nice day they bring their chairs and they sit and watch with an ice cream."
