Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue has already been given the green light for a second series just weeks into its debut run.

The CBS police drama follows former NYPD detective Danny Reagan (portrayed by Donnie Wahlberg ) following his transfer to the Boston Police Department.

He quickly finds himself teamed up with a "rising star" within the force, Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of one of the city's most prominent police families.

Boston Blue made its debut on 17th October this year, just under a year after the original series Blue Bloods, fronted by Tom Selleck, concluded with its 14th series.

Fortunately, the drama's inaugural spin-off has proved a triumph for CBS and will be making a comeback for another series during the 2026-2027 season, reports the Express.

The renewal was revealed alongside the extension of another beloved crime drama, Sheriff Country, starring Deadpool's Morena Baccarin, which also launched its first series on the same date.

Boston Blue has become an immediate ratings triumph for the American network, pulling in approximately 8 million viewers watching both live and via streaming over the following week.

CBS also reports that streaming figures have surged by 87 percent compared to the previous TV season.

Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, commented: "Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming.

"These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera."

Danny's son Sean Reagan, played by Mika Amonsen, is also making a return from the original Blue Bloods series, relocating to Boston with his father following an NYPD recruitment freeze.

A host of other beloved characters have made appearances in the spin-off, including Danny's sister Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and his former partner and love interest Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez).

Supporters were thrilled to learn about Boston Blue's early recommissioning and have flocked to social media to share their delight.

One X user declared: "I cannot express how happy this made me!!! #BostonBlue renewed for season 2! Let's goooo!!"

Another fan chimed in: "Happy that Boston Blue got a season 2! I've enjoyed it so far."

The enthusiasm spilled over onto Reddit, where one viewer commented: "Very happy with this news. I really enjoy this show."

Meanwhile, another watcher penned: "I didn't have high hopes but I find it surprisingly entertaining. I like his relationship with Sonequa and the family dynamics with her family.

"Still working out some rough edges but it's enjoyable. As long as Danny and Baez don't split!"

The series hasn't yet secured a confirmed UK launch date, though given that Blue Bloods aired on Sky Witness and NOW, it's probable the spin-off will land there sometime in 2026.

Boston Blue continues Fridays on CBS.
