Naga Munchetty revealed that Bjorn Borg has endured a challenging year whilst battling prostate cancer, with the tennis legend confessing he now lives life "day by day, year by year".

In his latest autobiography, the 69-year-old disclosed that the illness had reached "its most advanced stage" but vowed he would "fight every day like it's a Wimbledon final."

Discussing his condition on Thursday's BBC Breakfast, Naga opened with: "The former professional tennis player, Bjorn Borg, has been talking to the BBC about his treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

"The five-time Wimbledon champion revealed his illness in the final chapter of his much-anticipated autobiography.

"He said he requires regular scans and is currently in remission, and that he plans to fight the illness like it's a Wimbledon final."

During a short excerpt, Bjorn could be heard explaining: "I spoke to the doctor, and he said, 'This is really, really bad, but it's done'. And he said, 'But you have these sleeping cancer cells in your body," reports the Express.

"It is going to be a fight in the future, and I hope I am going to be ok, I might be ok, I might not be ok."

He added, "So every six months I will test myself. And right now, I did my last test two weeks ago, so I'm okay. I take it day by day, year by year, hopefully. It's the thing you have to live with."

Following the clip, Charlie Stayt added, "He is an iconic figure in tennis, and we'll hear more of that interview, where he talked about his life, his career, and now his medical condition and the various problems he's faced through his life.

"We'll hear more of that a little later on."

Bjorn revealed he was first diagnosed in 2023 with an "extremely aggressive" form of cancer, which was "at its most advanced stage".

However, after undergoing surgery in 2024, Bjorn is now in remission.

BBC Breakfast is broadcast daily at 6am on BBC One.
