There's bad news on its way for some Sky TV users. It's just been announced that one recently released product is being shut down for good from next month. Sky Live was first announced back in 2023 and hailed as a “clever entertainment device that will transform the way you use your TV”.

This accessory connects to Sky's Glass TV and, thanks to motion sensors and an in-built camera, offers numerous ways to interact with the giant screen. Those happy to pay the £6 per month subscription are treated to interactive games such as Fruit Ninja, Stingray Karaoke and Peppa Pig: Jump and Giggle. There is also a smart way to exercise with the device, monitoring posture and technique during home fitness sessions.

It even offers the ability to make Zoom calls and link up friends and family to watch content - such as Sky Sports - together via the camera.

It's a smart little device, but it's clearly not been as popular as Sky was hoping. The plug is being pulled on December 4, with the device no longer working after that date.

Although Sky Live is being taken offline, Sky says it will still offer games such as the recently released Who Wants To Be A Millionaire title, but these won’t be part of an extra subscription plan.

Explaining more, a Sky spokesperson said: “Innovation has always been at the heart of Sky. This year we’ve expanded our Sky Glass range to offer more choice, launched the UK’s fastest broadband speeds from any major provider, and continued to invest in making the TV experience even better.

“Sky Live was part of that journey, and we’re proud of the ambition behind it. It’s given us valuable learnings that are helping to shape the future of our products. The most popular feature was gaming, which is why we’ve continued to bring even more games to Sky Glass and Sky Stream, with something for everyone in the family, including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

“We’re focusing our investment where it matters most to customers — faster, simpler products, unbeatable content and brilliant service. Customers who purchased Sky Live will be refunded.”

Anyone affected should receive an email explaining the changes this week and those who have splashed out on the accessory will also be offered a refund and an easy way to return the product via free postage.
