Jo Konta's bid to qualify for the WTA Finals for the first time took a huge blow when she pulled out of the Hong Kong Open with a stomach injury.

The British No 1 had broken into the top eight for the first time by reaching the final of the China Open on Sunday.

But Konta can still be overtaken in the race to Singapore by Dominika Cibulkova , Carla Suarez Navarro or Svetlana Kuznetsova. And the Eastbourne-based star has not entered the final qualifying events in Moscow or Luxembourg next week so could ask for a wildcard β if fit.

An ATP statement read: βAfter completion of the on-site investigation, Kyrgios received the on-site maximum fine of $10,000 (Β£8,200) for lack of best efforts, as well as a $5,000 (Β£4,100) fine for verbal abuse of a spectator and a $1,500 (Β£1,200) fine for unsportsmanlike conduct.β
