Make no mistake, Brazil is a dreamland for anyone who likes their footballers to have ridiculous names.


This is a country where players are called things like Roberto Dinamite and – honestly – Creedence Clearwater Couto.


It puts our more mundane players to shame. How can Michael Dawson possibly compete with Leandro Banana? Which young fan would want 'Smith' on a jersey when (s)he could have 'Mosquito'?


It's not all fun and games, however. There's a counter-current of more mundane monikers that read like a list of classic English names from bygone times.
