Stephen Maguire delivered one of the worst performances ever seen at the UK Championships as he was thrashed 6-0 by Kyren Wilson.

The Scot, the winner of this event in 2004, could only master a highest break of 32 and a pot success rate of 57 per cent as he delivered a display that he couldn't bring himself to defend.

"Rubbish, there’s nothing more I can say. Just garbage," he told BBC Sport after the loss. It’s a hard one to take, what can you do? Just go home and see what the next day brings.

"I can’t explain it, you can’t explain that, it’s one of the worst performances ever. I’m struggling to believe how bad that was."

In a seprate interview with Eurosport, Maguire added: "I’ve no words for that. Well I have got a word, but I won’t say it.

"Listen, it’s nothing to do with the run of the ball, I was garbage. One thing to be happy about, at least it wasn’t a best of 19 because that would have been 10-0. At least I can go home tonight. I have to keep trying. Obviously that match there, I haven’t got a word for it, but hopefully it’s a one-off."

BBC commentator Shaun Murphy said: "The 57 per cent pot success of Stephen Maguire, I’ve never seen that before. Who knows why he’s had such a bad day. We’ve all had them, I feel for him, but he will be back.

Wilson was also left at somewhat of a loss to describe was effectively amounted to a walkover.

"It was a strange match,’ he said. ‘Early doors both of us were going into the pack and not really landing on a ball and having to play safe.

"For me, the table was so difficult to judge, I don’t know if that was what was wrong with Stephen today, obviously he didn’t allude to that. But I felt like everything was drifting to the right if you were playing it slow.

"When you have to start hitting the ball harder on these tables the pockets are so unforgiving it makes the game harder and harder. I just had to try and stay composed."
