Conor McGregor has sent the MMA world into frenzy after sensationally claiming Kim Kardashian is his cousin.

The former dual-weight UFC champion - who has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier back in 2021 - has consistently found himself grabbing the headlines as of late despite the octagon inactivity.

Recently, the 37-year-old ventured into the world of gaming and joined his son on a stream. Needless to say, he was quick to cause havoc. It did not take long before the host was forced to apologise when the Dublin fighter swore on the stream. Further clips have surfaced online showing the 'Notorious' struggling to play the game efficiently, as well as joking that his character looked like rapper Ice Spice.

But perhaps the biggest takeaway from his appearance was when he decided to go into a bit of depth about his ancestral background. McGregor's oldest son was asked if he knew Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s son, Saint. The Kardashian name has long been associated with being one of the most iconic family names in the world of Hollywood and entertainment.

Before he could respond, McGregor chimed in and claimed the two families are somehow related. “We know the Kardashians,” McGregor said. “They’re actually our cousins, would you believe. We’ve done a family tree, and it traces right back to the McGregors. “Robert Roy McGregor was an ancient highland warrior of the McGregor clan we come from. And would you believe the Kardashians trace to him, too! They’ve been at some of my fights, the Kardashians. Good people… Up the Kardashians if you are watching.”

Over the last few months, McGregor has ramped up training preparations amid talks of a 2026 return. Back in October, the Irishman insisted that his UFC return was a done deal, but boss Dana White swiftly dampened those assertions. The 37-year-old is hoping to appear on the White House card this June. That said, he was nearly at risk of missing the aforementioned event entirely receiving an 18-month suspension for drugs following three missed tests in 2024. He initially faced a two-year ban that would have kept him out of June's UFC event in Washington - but he's now sidelined until March 20 instead.

Despite calling for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather, it appears that there is one leading frontrunner for a potential clash with McGregor. Michael Chandler has consistently called for the dust-up following their stint as opposing coaches on 'The Ultimate Fighter' series back in 2023.

Both men were due to trade leather back in 2024, but McGregor was forced to pull out after sustaining an injury in training. That said, during the "New Year's Eve Life: Nashville's Big Bash" broadcast, Chandler made an appearance alongside presenter Bert Kreischer. In his brief segment, the American fighter suggested that a potential money-spinning showdown with McGregor could be back on track.

"I will say, it's going to be a big year," Chandler said. "Number one, like you said, the UFC is now on Paramount+, the entire year...for the multitude of [years]...and also, there's a rumour going around. We can't confirm nor deny, but it does sound like I might be handing Conor McGregor a good ol' passionate, 'red, white and blue' butt whooping in the South Lawn of the White House sometime this summer. And that's the plan, let's go."
