Russell Westbrook looks to be on his way out of the Los Angeles Lakers, as a three-team trade deal reaches the final stages.
β
That's according to NBA insider Shams Charania, who claims that the Lakers, Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves are in discussions on a three-team deal. Talks are underway and it could see DβAngelo Russell join the Lakers, Westbrook head to Utah with some draft compensation such as a first-round pick, and the Timberwolves would receive Mike Conley Jr.

Lakers star LeBron James has put pressure on the front office to make trades ahead of Thursday's deadline, and was vocal in his disappointment to see them miss out on Kyrie Irving. It's not gone to plan for Westbrook since arriving in 2021, and it looks like he will be the one to make way.
β
In addition to the three-way talks, discussions are also said to include Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt of the Jazz. It's thought they too could join the Lakers, but teams are currently working through pick projections and additional draft compensation.
James has wanted the Lakers to make moves during the trade window, as he still has his sights on reaching the postseason. James is desperate to add a fifth NBA title to his collection, but is running out of time.
β
The Lakers have already brought in Rui Hachimura within the last few weeks after agreeing a deal with the Washington Wizards. Kendrick Nunn and three future second-round draft picks went in the other direction to complete that trade.
It also looks like the Lakers will keep hold of Anthony Davis despite speculation he could move elsewhere. Multiple teams were said to be interested in Davis, but even with his injury woes he is a vital member of the roster and any potential Championship charge.
Fresh faces will boost James' confidence in the Lakers after he recently admitted his disappointment that a reunion with Irving would not be on the cards. Irving requested a trade on Friday, and quickly joined the Dallas Mavericks who beat the Lakers to the deal.
"I can't sit here and say I'm not disappointed on not being able to land such a talent, but [also] someone that I had great chemistry with, and know I got great chemistry with on the floor, that can help you win championships, in my mind, in my eyes," James told ESPN. "But my focus is shifted now."
