Todd Gurley confirms his NFL career is 'most definitely over' after six seasons - The Mirror

Just four years ago Todd Gurley had dominated the NFL scoring 17 touchdowns in 14 games, but has now called time on his career after failing to be picked up by a team this season

Former Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley has confirmed that his career is 'most definitely over' at the age of just 28. It comes after he has not been picked up by an NFL roster a third of the way through the 2022 season, whilst not playing in 2021.

Gurley spent the 2020 season with Atlanta Falcons, returning to the state of Georgia where he spent three years with the Bulldogs before being a first-round draft pick in 2015.

Before his year in Atlanta, Gurley had five years with the Los Angeles Rams, scoring 60 touchdowns and over 6,000 yards.

Gurley was named offensive rookie of the year in 2015, before winning offensive player of the year two years later - when he had 2,000 all-purpose yards and 19 touchdowns.

He would also win rushing touchdown leader in 2017 and 2018, whilst being named to the first-team All-Pro sides in both years.

Throughout his career, though, he would suffer with crippling knee injuries, which would eventually take it's toll in 2019, when his production would dip as he averaged just 3.8 yards per carry and was eventually released by the Los Angeles Rams - just one year after signing a four-year $60 million deal.

It would emerge that he suffered with arthritis in his right knee, after struggling with injuries throughout his college career in the same area as well as in the NFL. Despite his injuries, though, he would only miss eight games throughout his career - an impressive statistic for a running-back.

Gurley would eventually join the Falcons after turning down the Seattle Seahawks, and did score nine touchdowns with the team but would not be re-signed.

And in an interview with NFL Network, Gurley stated that his career is all but over.

When asked if that is the case, he said: "I don't think there's any question about that."
