Former NHL players Richard Zednick has escaped serious injury in Slovakia after the roof of a rink he was skating on caved in.

Zednick, famous for having his throat accidentally slashed with a skate while playing for the Florida Panthers at the tail-end of his 13-year career, had the second lucky escape of his life in NΓ‘mestovo, Slovakia, last Sunday.

Now an ambassador for ice hockey in his home nation, the retired right wing was training with kids in front of a camera crew when he noticed pieces of ice falling from the roof. He was able to get his group behind the boards of the rink before the roof collapsed completely.

Eyewitness Oravia Brno said: "Parents have noticed that the ceiling began to fall kind of frost, so quickly summoned the children to get them out of the ice surface. Then there was cracking and literally a few seconds the hall ceiling collapsed completely."

Miraculously, no-one was hurt in the incident.
