The Irish trainer was ecstatic with the success of the 16-1 shot, who made light work of his opponents in the day's feature race.

ITV Racing's Alice Plunkett told him: "You said beforehand if he won that you might be rolling in the mud."

β€Œ

"Well I still might do it," said Winters.

"Do you want to roll in the Cheltenham mud?" replied Plunkett.

"I would love to," said the trainer."

β€Œ

"Go on then, here we go."

Winters got down on his hands and knees in the winners' enclosure and rolled over on his side, to cheers from his supporters and the crowd.

"It's fabulous, fabulous," Winters chuckled.

What looked a competitive renewal of the International Meeting's feature race on paper was turned into a procession by the winner.

Chatham Street Lad, a novice over fences coming into the 2m 4f contest, was the first Irish-trained winner since 2005.

β€Œ

β€œIt was outstanding – it was a local jockey as well," added Winters, who said in the build-up to the race that if he won at Cheltenham he'd roll like a pig in muck.

"He has come down to school on the horse lately and the horse has improved.

β€œThe owners have always had horses in and they have a couple of pubs locally and things. In fairness he won well in Cork (last time out).

"This is spectacular."

Benatar (25-1) was third and the well-backed Good Boy Bobby (6-1) finished fourth.

"When Micky Winters comes over to England he's got to be taken seriously because when he has the ammunition he's well able to train them," said the eight-year-old's jockey Darragh O'Keeffe.
