Wigan boss Uwe Rosler has called off a pre-season game in Germany – because he is running out of players.
The Latics made the decision to cancel against SC Wiedenbruck on Tuesday, despite fans travelling for a three-match trip.
Rosler has seen his squad hit by injuries and he has failed to bring in as many new players as he wanted.
He explained: “We came to the decision as the match will stretch the squad.
“The plan was to rotate the players for the second game and allow the whole squad to get an equal amount of match minutes.
“But circumstances this summer have meant that we already used a number of players for all the games.
“I felt the risk was too high to lose a player for the beginning of the season.”
Rosler claimed his squad was at crisis point a fortnight ago and the loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Emyr Huws is his only addition since.
