The January transfer window is fast approaching and clubs are getting ready to splash the cash ahead of the second half of the season.

Manchester United are among those expected to be active, albeit sales will be needed to fund any new signings. Marcus Rashford is one high-profile star that the club are seemingly willing to sell in order to give Ruben Amorim more flexibility in the market, though where he ends up is another matter.

Liverpool could also be about to lose some big names - Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all out of contract in the summer, although all are now believed to have received contract offers. Salah is expected to extend his stay, though nothing is officially agreed at the time of writing.

Elsewhere, Arsenal could be active in January to boost their title hopes with Manchester City all but out of the picture. Mikel Arteta's side kept their powder dry in the summer rather than signing a striker, though they're waiting to learn whether they will be able to keep hold of midfielder Thomas Partey.

By Daniel Orme

Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo would NEVER sign for Arsenal.

Speaking to RMC Sport, he said: "Has Cristiano ever wanted to come to PSG? Yes. There was Paris, Arsenal... That was before he signed for Juventus (in 2018). He had Chelsea, Juventus, Paris. He said he would never go to Arsenal. He was interested in the (Parisian) project. You can criticize Cristiano, but he would have adapted. He would have made an effort. Look at what he is doing in Saudi Arabia. He is a Saudi!"

19:04 - Reyna shares transfer stance

By Daniel Orme

Borussia Dortmund star Gio Reyna has admitted he is keen for more chances with the German side.

He said: "It was great. I'm just really happy to be back on the field, It's obviously when I'm happiest. When Nuri [Şahin, Dortmund head coach] told me that I get the chance to play, obviously I just want to take it and have a good game..

"He really just wanted me to play my game and use my ability on the ball and talents to find the ball in areas and get other guys involved, and I feel like I did a good job of that. Really just happy to be back out there today. I just have to take it and fight for more opportunities and look to really improve now."

Reyna has previously had a stint in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest.

18:23 - Man City transfer mistake slammed

By Daniel Orme

Paolo di Canio has torn into Manchester City's decision to sell Julian Alvarez.

Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: “The serious thing in my opinion is the wrong evaluation of Julian Alvarez.

“[Alvarez was] someone who helped everyone with his movements, his assists and his goals. It’s fine to sell him for 90 million euros, but he had to be replaced.

“Instead, Guardiola had the presumption to take someone from within. He didn’t think about [signing someone new] and this was a mistake.”

By Daniel Orme

Napoli are refusing to admit defeat in their pursuit of Jakub Kiwior.

17:15 - Dyche fires warning to out of contract stars

By Daniel Orme

Sean Dyche claims Everton’s players should be even more fired up if their contracts are due to expire in the summer.

“Whatever way you look at it, whether you’re in contract or out of contract, your aim should be to play well, get in the team and play consistently for the club,” said the Everton boss.

“That shouldn’t change and you could even argue that if their contract is up, it’s that extra bit of incentive. Obviously, it’s not been so helpful with the change of ownership because you’ve got to wait and see what the new owners want to do.

“If your contract is up and nothing is happening or not a lot of noise is happening about you, you need to create noise. It’s not a terrible situation by any means or a questionable situation, it’s just the reality at the moment.”

17:15 - Clubs track Brentwood star

By Dan Marsh

Brentwood Town forward Daniel Ogunleye is being tracked by a number of professional clubs.

The 22-year-old has plundered 19 goals and six assists in 27 games this term for Brentwood and caught the eye in their recent FA Trophy defeat against Southend United, where he netted twice.

Southend's rivals, Colchester, are one of the clubs who could move for Ogunleye in January. Wycombe Wanderers have reaped the rewards of plucking the prolific Richard Kone from non-league and have also watched Ogunleye.

16:46 - Red Devils could also sell Garnacho

Manchester United are open to offers for forward Marcus Rashford this January.

16:17 - Badiashile staying at Chelsea

By Tom Victor

Chelsea have no desire to offload Benoit Badiashile, despite RMC Sport (via Get French Football News) suggesting there has been interest from France and Italy.

Centre-back Badiashile joined the Blues from Monaco in January 2023 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.

He has made just four league appearances in the Premier League this term, though he started his club's first four Conference League matches.

15:48 - Liverpool keen on Joao Pedro

By Tom Victor

According to Brazilian outlet UOL, Liverpool have an eye on Brighton star Joao Pedro.

The former Watford star has also been linked with Manchester United, though it remains to be seen whether the exits of Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth will change that.

Liverpool are expected to open discussions in January with a view to a summer move, with Brighton likely to demand a hefty fee for a player who cost them £30m in 2023.

15:18 - Salah 'short of options'

By Tom Victor

Jamie Carragher suggests Mohamed Salah will stay at Anfield because of a lack of options elsewhere.

"I love Mo Salah, he’s one of the best players in the world, but the reason I say [I don't think will have options' is because of his age," Carragher said on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.

He added: "He’s not ready to go to Saudi [Arabia] – he can do that in three years’ time. Salah is that driven as a footballer to win the record of most goals – or whatever that may be for Liverpool.”

14:48 - Madrid ready to pull out of Davies race

By Tom Victor

Real Madrid will withdraw from the race to sign Alphonso Davies, according to reports in Spain (via Football Espana).

Barcelona have also been linked, but Bayern haven't given up on a new deal for the Canadian international.

14:18 - Rashford told to join Arsenal

By Tom Victor

Former England midfielder Danny Murphy thinks a move to Arsenal could help Marcus Rashford get back to his best.

"Playing in a team that's so settled and so confident and competent, there is a case that his end product would get much better, because Arsenal are really dominant in games" the ex-Liverpool star said on talkSPORT.

"There would be some people who would take Rashford over [Gabriel] Martinelli."

13:48 - Spurs clear on Richarlison

By Felix Keith

Tottenham have no intention of parting with Richarlison in January, according to TNT Sports in Brazil.

Fluminense are interested in bringing him back, but Spurs do not want to lose him mid-season.

13:09 - Partey edging towards Arsenal exit

By John Cross

Arsenal are in serious danger of losing Thomas Partey for nothing in the summer.

Partey, 31, is free to talk to other clubs from January 1 because his current contract expires at the end of the season. There has been little progress in discussions over a potential new deal despite Partey re-emerging as a key player in the squad this season.

Clubs in Saudi and across Europe are now keeping tabs on the Partey situation. Arsenal would be reluctant to let him go in January but then risk losing him for free if they do not resolve the issue.

12:14 - Pogba to Man Utd torpedoed

By David McDonnell

Paul Pogba's former Manchester United team-mate Wes Brown has ruled out a return to Old Trafford for the midfielder for a third spell.

“I'm not sure about Paul Pogba coming back to United for a third time,” Brown told 10bet. “I can't see it happening. Paul, obviously, as an individual player, he's absolutely class. I've always loved how he played. Again, he gets a lot of stick, but there is no doubting his ability as an individual.

“Being out for 18 months will be tough for him – it will take him some time to get back to the levels we’ve seen him produce before. I know he'll be training somewhere, but it’s a bit different training in isolation, not being around world-class players."

11:32 - Gomez opens up on failed transfer

By Felix Keith

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has explained what happened when his transfer to Newcastle collapsed in the summer.

The Reds had ageed a double deal with Newcastle, with Anthony Gordon set to go in the other direction. But the move - which was set up in part to comply with profit and sustainability rules - collapsed at the last minute.

"Yeah, it was definitely for real," Gomez said. "My focus was always on the club but I know how blessed I am to be here and I will be 10 years in the summer.

"I don’t take that for granted. It is the best club in the world in my eyes and it was quickly a case of adapting and getting into the swing of things (after the deal collapsed). It was good to put it to bed. That is football."

10:47 - Arteta urged to axe Jesus

By Felix Keith

Arsenal should consider selling Gabriel Jesus to sign a more prolific striker, according to Martin Keown.

Jesus missed some big chance in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Monaco last night and Keown wasn't impressed.

09:59 - 'Salah will sign a new Liverpool contract'

Mohamed Salah will sign a new contract with Liverpool because he won't be flooded with offers from other clubs, according to Jamie Carragher.

"I love Mo Salah, he’s one of the best players in the world, but the reason I say this is because of his age," Carragher said on the Stick to Football podcast. "When you’re on that type of money and you’re talking about getting a raise – a raise isn’t 10 or 20 grand a week. How many attackers do Real Madrid have, Barcelona are in dire straits financially, PSG are nowhere near the team Liverpool are – there are only four or five teams that can realistically win the Champions League and Liverpool are one of them.

“He will stay as I’m not sure there are too many options. He’s not ready to go to Saudi [Arabia] – he can do that in three years’ time. Salah is that driven as a footballer to win the record of most goals – or whatever that may be for Liverpool.”

09:36 - Liverpool urged to sign Bournemouth star

By Felix Keith

Liverpool should consider a move for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez as a long-term successor for Andy Robertson, according to Stephen Warnock.

"I do think the left-back position will need addressing soon, Robertson's getting older and has obviously played a lot of games throughout his Liverpool career with little or no understudy and they will look for a long-term replacement at some point," he told BetMGM.

"[Kostas] Tsimikas clearly isn’t trusted and there are rumours of Milos Kerkez at Bournemouth coming to Liverpool."

By Felix Keith

“The club loves Josh, I love Josh, we are trying to find an agreement with the player, we are close, we are almost there. We'll see.”

07:56 - Van Dijk tight-lipped on his future

The interviewer again attempted to probe but Van Dijk remained stubborn as he repeated “no word” before saying “no news to bring”.

07:19 - Jesus still has a future at Arsenal

By Jacob Leeks

Mikel Arteta has insisted Gabriel Jesus still has a future at Arsenal. The striker has started just six games this season and scored only one goal, which came in the Carabao Cup win over Preston.

Despite dropping down the pecking order though, Arteta has ruled out an exit for the Brazilian in January. When asked if Jesus would be moving on, he said: "No, no sense. Like all strikers, they go on phases and moments and that gap is becoming big.

"It’s true that obviously a lot of things has happened, injuries, absences of not playing or starting games that much but his attitude has been really good, it always is, and we’re going to try to help him overcome the situation as soon as possible."

06:40 - United wait on Rashford bids

By Dan Marsh

Manchester United are open to selling Marcus Rashford in January, but will struggle to offload him due to his wage demands.

06:22 - Salah weighs up future

By Dan Marsh

Perhaps the big transfer saga heading into January is that of Mohamed Salah.

Like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, he's free to speak with clubs from overseas in a few weeks.

Liverpool have made him an offer and would love to keep him given he's been in sensational form - but will Salah agree to stay on? There's still no news but stay tuned.
