To the relief of Arsenal fans, Viktor Gyokeres has finally joined the Gunners in a £63.7million move - but Alexander Isak's saga is likely to drag on.

The Gunners confirmed Gyokeres' move on Saturday night, with the new striker handed the No.14 shirt. He's expected to join the club on their pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong - and, while it's too early to face Newcastle on Sunday, he could make his debut against Tottenham next Thursday.

The Gunners might not be finished there either, with a deal for Crystal Palace wideman Eberechi now in the pipeline.

While it's good news for the Swedish striker, the same can't be said of his compatriot Isak. The Newcastle star wants to leave for pastures new and Liverpool are desperate to land him, but the Magpies are understandably reluctant to sell.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have ruled out Isak but have a three-striker wish-list attack after signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

17:02 - Barcelona chief issues Diaz statement

By Daniel Orme

Barcelona chief Joan Laporta has revealed just how close he was to signing Luis Diaz with the winger edging close to a move to Bayern Munich. "It has been a more complicated terrain than the goalkeeper because of the opinions that came from all sides," he told Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

"There were several options and I'm very happy because we ended up getting the option that I liked the most.

"It's true I also liked Luis Diaz, a very complete player but, due to his circumstances, it was complicated although I thank the player wanted to come at all times.

"Nico Williams also happened. And in view of the fact that Luis was complicated and that we were in the process of negotiating with Rashford, Nico's agent came offering the possibility of signing him.

"Deco told me, in principle I preferred to work on the other two options, but in these cases I always listen to the sporting management. He said that at least we should listen because he is an interesting player because he holds his own.

"There were negotiations, but from what they told us to what it was in the end, there was a lot of difference in the direction of the payment terms, in the agent's commission and a series of variables that already had signs that the operation would not take place.

"Deco set a deadline of 48 hours and if they did not accept our conditions, we were not going to do that operation. In the end it was not done. At the same time, work was done with the other two and Rashford's was clarified."

07:46 - Isak U-turn as broken transfer promise emerges

By Matt Maltby

Newcastle face the prospect of losing Alexander Isak this summer - with the Swede telling the club he wants to explore his options away from St James' Park.

It all comes back to the decision taken by former sporting director Paul Mitchell, who has since left after only spending a year in his role. The ex-Monaco and Tottenham chief told Isak that he would not be offered a new deal with the salary he wanted potentially leading to Profit and Sustainability breaches, as reported the Daily Mail.

Mitchell felt that the Swede still had four years left to run on his contract - now three - and was already among the club’s highest earners. It has been claimed that the decision upset Isak, with his frustration impacting on the dressing room as a whole.

In light of his stellar season, where Isak scored 27 times in all competitions, including one in the Carabao Cup final, the club are ready to offer him a huge pay increase but it may be a case of too little, too late with the player making rumblings that he wants a new challenge elsewhere.
