Joao Palhinha has indicated he wants to stay at Tottenham despite reiterating the final decision rests with the club's hierarchy. The 30-year-old is currently on loan from Bayern Munich but the Europa League champions can trigger a £27million clause to make the move permanent next summer.
Palhinha said when quizzed on his future: “They should ask to the owner, or Fabio [Paratici], or Johan [Lange], not myself! Of course, this is like a marriage. Both parts need to want [it].
“But I am really glad here. I feel the support from the supporters as well. When you feel this, for me it is really special. We have until the end of the season. We have a lot of things to happen. You know how it is in football. I just want to enjoy the time that I am here. Let’s see what is going to happen."
The former Fulham man has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Thomas Frank and has also chipped in with four goals in all competitions against Manchester City, Wolves, Doncaster and Copenhagen.
Palhinha also revealed he had other offers from the Premier League this summer, adding: “I had a lot of opportunities to join Premier League clubs this summer, I remember.
“But some things didn’t happen. Like I said before, it’s because they didn’t need to happen. When Tottenham came in and I spoke with Thomas as well, it was the club, I really liked the project, to be fair, and the way Thomas as well pushed for myself to have me in the club. “It was easy for me to decide at that moment. The things in Bayern were not easy because after the injury, it was hard for me to get opportunities, minutes. “Until the injury I was playing, I was winning my space on the team, before the injury, on the national team. But after the injury it was more difficult for me to run to get my chances. “Now I am here, I am really glad, fully enjoying the Premier League again. About the future, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just focus on the present and enjoy it." Palhinha was a key figure under Marco Silva at Fulham before moving to Bavaria. After his switch to Germany initially collapsed on deadline day in January 2024, he eventually sealed a £47.4m permanent transfer that unfortunately, did not work out.
