Newcastle have resurrected their interest in Marseille winger Florian Thauvin.

But the French club have turned down an improved Β£12m offer for the highly-rated 22-year-old, who has also attracted interest from Tottenham.

After the departures of Andre Ayew, AndrΓ©-Pierre Gignac and Dimitri Payet this summer, Marseille are keen to hang on to the France Under-21 international.

The Stade Velodrome outfit value Thauvin in excess of Β£15million, and the Tyneside club have considered offering unsettled French midfielder Remy Cabella as a makeweight in the deal.
Newcastle also remain favouries to sign Northampton striker Ivan Toney.

The Magpies opened talks with the League Two club last month over a Β£400,000 plus add-ons deal.

Toney, 19, is also interesting a host of Championship clubs. But Toney, who was pulled out of a Northampton friendly last weekend due to ongoing transfer talks, favours a move to Tyneside.
Northampton boss Chris Wilder said: βEvery party has to sort their own part of the deal out.β
Fourth-choice Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, 18, has joined Crawley on a five-month loan.
