There’s now just two weeks remaining of the January transfer window and Manchester United are yet to make a signing.

A striker was reported to be on the Red Devils’ shopping list but their need for added options appears to have been alleviated with Rasmus Hojlund finally finding form in the Premier League. Elsewhere, a few outgoing deals have also been confirmed with both Jadon Sancho and Hannibal Mejbri both leaving Old Trafford already this month.

Dony van de Beek has also moved on to Eintracht Frankfurt, while Erik ten Hag opted against a move for Timo Werner who instead joined Tottenham.

The rumours continue to come thick and fast. Here are the latest news to come out of Old Trafford over the past 24 hours:

Benfica deny Man United claim

Portuguese giants Benfica have made the extraordinary move of denying a Manchester United-themed rumour. It was suggested earlier this week that the Red Devils had put themselves at the front of the queue for midfielder Joao Neves and had priority over other clubs.

However, Benfica have denied that is the case. A club statement on Tuesday read: "Sport Lisboa e Benfica denies the existence of any right of preference over its player João Neves.

"Under no circumstances did Sport Lisboa e Benfica enter into talks with Manchester United or any other club about this player from their formation – nor does it intend to do so –, so any information that points in another direction is false."

Dortmund not optimistic over Sancho deal

While Borussia Dortmund managed to get a loan deal over the line for Jadon Sancho, the club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl is not optimistic of their chances of re-signing him permanently.

“Realistically, the chance is not that great. Manchester United paid 85 million euros for him two years ago. A purchase option was not financially feasible for us,” Kehl told Sky Germany.

“We will see what happens in the summer. If the player develops as we hope, there will be other interested parties.”

Sancho enjoyed a dream start to life back with Dortmund after assisting Marco Reus on his second debut for the club.

Red Devils ‘interested’ in De Ligt

Manchester United could tee up a summer move for Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt. According to Sky in Germany, the Dutchman is not fully satisfied with life at the Allianz Arena.

While a move in January has been ruled out, it is suggested a summer switch could potentially be on the agenda. United are reportedly ‘very interested’ with Erik ten Hag keen to be reunited with his compatriot.

De Ligt has three-and-a-half years remaining on his Bayern Munich contract following his arrival from Juventus.
