Manchester United have been linked with a move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes for several months, and there has been a new update on the Brazilian's future

Manchester United's hopes of signing Wolves star Joao Gomes have been given a huge boost. The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Brazilian since last summer, but chose not to bring in a new midfielder to Old Trafford for the current campaign.
The midfield is an area that United have been rumoured to be keen on bolstering for several months, and this speculation has persisted into the January transfer window.
Gomes' future at Wolves has been a frequent topic of speculation, and now it seems there are more contenders than just United vying for his signature.
Italian giants Napoli have recently been linked with a move for Gomes, and fresh news about the midfielder's future has just emerged, reports the Manchester Evening News.

This could give United a welcome boost, assuming they're still interested in signing the ex-Flamengo star.
The report also suggests that United's former head coach, Ruben Amorim, specifically asked the club to consider a move for Gomes. However, it's unclear whether the Old Trafford hierarchy will do so now that Amorim has been succeeded by interim head coach Michael Carrick.
Wolves have reportedly slapped a £43million (€50million) price tag on Gomes, but it remains to be seen whether United are prepared to meet this valuation before the transfer window closes.
The fact that Wolves would prefer to sell to another Premier League side due to the financial benefits could work in United's favour.
United's pursuit of a new midfielder has been well-documented, with several names being thrown into the mix as potential recruits.
Carlos Baleba from Brighton, Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton have all previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, so it will be interesting to see where Gomes fits into United's plans ahead of the looming deadline.
