Luis Diaz has suggested that it would be his “dream” to play for a Spanish club in the future - but stressed that he is not currently looking to leave Liverpool as it stands.

The Colombian winger joined the Reds in January this year from Portuguese giants Porto and immediately looked to be an inspired signing. He scored six goals and notched five assists in his first half-season on Merseyside before following that up with a further five strikes this season before a serious injury cruelly sidelined him.

Once he returns, it is thought that the 25-year-old will represent a key part of Liverpool’s new-look attack with Sadio Mane having been moved on, whilst Darwin Nunez has also been recruited from Portuguese side Benfica.

Whilst recognising he is currently perfectly happy at Anfield, Diaz did admit that he has ambitions of moving to LaLiga at some point in his career. As quoted by Colombian publication SoHo, he said: “I would like to play for a Spanish club that has always attracted my family’s attention, but it is more of a childish dream.

“Now I only think about lifting trophies and making history with Liverpool, which is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I am very grateful for the opportunity they have given me.”

It appears highly unlikely that Diaz would be on the move from Liverpool in the immediate future at the very least. The winger currently has four-and-a-half years left on his current contract at Anfield.

He is currently focused on getting back to full fitness and will be watching some of his Liverpool teammates such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson in action in the World Cup in Qatar. Diaz’s home country Colombia failed to qualify for the tournament and he admits his hurt over their absence.

The winger said: "It hurts. It hurts too much. It was the first World Cup that I was going to attend. Sometimes I would like to turn back time, because I don't believe it.

“Also, we had a great team. And seeing that the time has come is hard. We'll have to wait until the next World Cup."

One man who will be keen on seeing the Colombian back sooner rather than later is Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who hailed his ability to slot seamlessly into the Reds' side following his move to the Premier League. The German said: "There is a reason why you sign a player.

“The reason is the quality that he [Diaz] has. The reason is the way that he is playing the game.

"With Luis, where it has been really special is that when we saw him we knew that he would fit in immediately.”
