Manchester United have completed the £62.5million signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The 26 year-old Brazilian international forward has signed a contract until June 2030, with the option of an additional year.

Brazil forward Cunha, United’s first signing of the summer window, said: “It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.

“I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality. I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead.

“All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”

Jason Wilcox, United’s Director of Football, said: “Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window.

“He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and before that in Spain and Germany.

“He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”

The deal had been announced initially by both United and former club Wolves on June 1. In a short club statement, Wolves declared: "Everyone at Wolves would like to thank Matheus for his contributions in old gold and wish he and his family the best of luck for the future."

United prioritised a move for Cunha this summer after his exploits for Wolves in 2024-25 and their own failings in front of goal. United were the Premier League's fifth lowest scorers, while the Brazilian scored 17 goals and added six assists as he earned Wolves' Players' Player of the Season award.

His flexibility also appealed, with head coach Ruben Amorim penciling in a role for Cunha as one of his two No.10s in the Portuguese's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation. Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is the top target for the other role, while United are still pushing for a new No.9 also.

Cunha only signed a new contract at Molineux in February, having failed to land a big-money move in January. His new deal contained the £62.5m release clause which United have agreed to pay, but only after attempting to persuade Wolves to allow them to meet the terms of the clause over a longer period.

Instead, Wolves refused to budge, and United quickly agreed to pay the full amount as per the terms in his contract with the Black Country side, meaning Wolves will see £20.83m up front, another £20.83m at the end of the 2025-26 season, and the remaining £20.83m at the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
