Bournemouth have officially confirmed the signing of Tyrone Mings from Ipswich for a club-record £8million fee.

The Premier League new boys have beaten three established top flight teams to the signature of Mings, with Aston Villa, West Brom and Newcastle all interested in his signature.

Bournemouth had a bid for the full-back, who was once wanted by Arsenal, accepted on Wednesday night.

He has been handed a four-year contract and will become Bournemouth’s fifth summer addition with Everton defender Sylvain Distin poised to become number six.

Like last season's breakthrough stars Jamie Vardy and Charlie Austin, Mings has progressed from non-league football having previously impressed for Chippenham Town.

Speaking to Bournemouth's Cherries Player, manager Eddie Howe said: “We are signing a player of huge potential. We believe he has everything required to be a success in the Premier League.

“He’s a good age as well and I think there’s a lot of scope for him to improve.

“He’s been linked with Premier League clubs for a long time now and is very highly regarded for his performances for Ipswich.

“Albeit for a short period of time, he has shown great promise.

“He fits the mould we are looking for – young, progressive, ambitious and wants to improve.

“Hopefully it will be a successful period for us coming up and he can be a big part of that.”

In the other direction goes both Brett Pitman (permanently) and Ryan Fraser (on loan) as part of the Mings deal.
