Andoni Iraola addresses Bournemouth star's future after Antoine Semenyo transfer hint - The Mirror

Bournemouth are at risk of losing more star players to bigger clubs in 2026, having already lost the likes of Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Illia Zabarnyi last year

Andoni Iraola believes that Marcos Senesi could still sign a new contract with Bournemouth. It comes amid reports that Senesi, 28, is planning to leave the club as a free agent when his current deal expires in June.

The Argentine centre-back will be allowed to speak to clubs from abroad from New Year's Day, and potentially sign a pre-contract agreement. But Iraola wants Senesi to stay, having already sold three defenders - Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Illia Zabarnyi - in the summer transfer window to force wholesale changes at the back.

"The most important thing is that he's playing very well," Iraola said on Friday. "Both parties still have time regarding his contract situation - there are still seven months left. There is no doubt I want him to continue here."

Bournemouth recouped a combined £150million in the trio's sales to Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain respectively. But due to Senesi being out of contract, he can walk away on a free.

The former Feyenoord defender looks set to be joined in leaving Bournemouth by Antoine Semenyo, who could depart as soon as next month. Semenyo, 25, has a release clause worth £65m which can be activated before January 15, and it's been reported that the Cherries are already looking at replacements.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool have all been linked with Semenyo. As for Senesi, it's understood that multiple clubs are monitoring his situation, but Premier League teams are permitted from reaching a formal agreement until the summer.

Bournemouth have also been dealt a more immediate blow relating to another key player. In the early stages of the Cherries' epic 4-4 draw with United on Monday, Tyler Adams suffered a serious knee injury, ruling him out for between two and three months.

"Tyler is injured and has torn his MCL, so he will definitely be out for some time," Iraola confirmed, speaking ahead of Saturday's game at home to Burnley. "From our previous experience with MCL injuries, it is normally around two or three months.

"It's a big blow because he is an important player for us. Straight away, when you see the mechanism of the injury and the action itself, we felt it could be something serious."

The Cherries boss added: "Tyler is very valuable for us and very unique in what he does. We do have options - Alex has been playing there and Lewis Cook is in his natural position there - but it's true that Tyler is difficult to replace."
