Arne Slot plan takes shape as 24th Liverpool player leaves in post-Jurgen Klopp era - The Mirror

Liverpool saw 24 players depart Anfield this summer as Arne Slot took over the reins from Jurgen Klopp and the club was only able to provide the Dutchman with one new player

Liverpool confirmed their 24th exit from Anfield on transfer deadline day to complete a busy summer of activity.

Kaide Gordon moved on a season-long loan to Norwich City to round off the Reds' business in the first transfer window in the aftermath of Jurgen Klopp's departure, and the return of Michael Edwards to the club, in addition to Richard Hughes' arrival to the club. Gordon became the 13th Liverpool player to leave the club temporarily.

The 29-year-old was signed by Liverpool in February 2021 in a transfer that could eventually earn Derby £3.4million. Gordon made his senior debut aged just 16 in a League Cup win at Norwich later that year.

It's been a summer of exits rather than arrivals for Liverpool with Slot acknowledging from the outset it would be difficult to add players to a talented squad left to him by Jurgen Klopp. It wasn't until the final days of August the former Feyenoord boss was given a signing to call his own with Federico Chiesa's arrival.

Liverpool also signed Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in a significant deal. The shot-stopper remains with Valencia on loan however.

Slot was pleased with how things ultimately unfolded however. The Liverpool boss explained: "Chiesa can help us for the short-term and Mamardashvili is an example of what this club did very well in the past of looking (after) the long-term future. And that is why we signed him."

The 45-year-old added on Chiesa's addition: "(I am) excited, like I said before. If we can sign someone who can help us achieve our goals and improve the squad. One of the best things about working here is the culture of the team. They work really hard to achieve their goals.

"So it's really important that the first player you bring in has that same attitude and brings the same culture. He works really hard on and off the pitch to get the best and combines this with goals. He is really aggressive without the ball."
