EXCLUSIVE: The average attendance across Premier League games so far this season has been 39,171 - just shy of the same period in the 2019/20 season

Premier League clubs have reported impressive attendance figures despite the ongoing Covid crisis.

There were major fears that season ticket holders and fans might stay away because of the pandemic with some clubs carrying out spot checks demanding proof of vaccination.

But it can be revealed that after five games the average attendance across the top flight has been 39,171 which compares well to 39,246 after the same period of time in the 2019/20 season.

Stadiums have also been at 95.5 per cent of capacity while travelling fans have averaged at just under 2,400 while they were just over 2,400 in the 2019/20 season.

That is hugely encouraging for clubs even amid ongoing concerns over vaccinations, whether the Government could still bring in a Covid pass and also some fixtures demanding the fans undergo a lateral flow test.

It also clears up doubts around why some clubs across both the Premier League and EFL have not been reporting their attendance figures.

One recent weekend saw around half of the results appear in the media without an attendance which has been a regular thing this season.

The Premier League does not require clubs to report gates and it is done at their own discretion but any thought it may be because numbers are significantly down is clearly unfounded.
