CRAIG SHORT hailed his side’s defensive mean streak after Notts County saw off the Pilgrims.
Craig Westcarr opened the scoring in the 35th minute from a corner before John Spicer grabbed his first league goal for the club six minutes into the second half.
The Pilgrims had chances of their own, but were unable to break down a resilient Magpies defence. Short said: “The clean sheet was pleasing, especially in the second half, when they were throwing men forward.
“They are a big and physical side and I thought Krystian Pearce and Mike Edwards did exceptionally well.”
Furious Argyle boss Peter Reid said: “We decided to change things and it didn’t work, but it’s not about formations. It’s about 11 players competing against 11 and we were out-competed.
“We were second-best all over the park and they were very poor goals to concede.”
