Midfielder Thornton gave the Cobblers the perfect start after four minutes, cutting inside two defenders to beat keeper Matt Glennon.
β
Stockport had chances to equalise, but Anthony Pulis fired wide at the near post and Greg Tansey forced a save out of Chris Dunn.
β
Northampton sub Jacobs secured the points in the 75th minute, curling past Glennon from a tight angle.
Northampton No.2 Malcolm Crosby said: βIt was a chance for us to move up the table with so few other games being played, so weβre pleased.β
Stockport manager Paul Simpson groaned: βConfidence was already low after recent results and once we fell behind we had a mountain to climb.β
