GOALS from Kevin Thornton and Michael Jacobs earned Northampton a fourth home win of the season against fellow strugglers Stockport.

Midfielder Thornton gave the Cobblers the perfect start after four minutes, cutting inside two defenders to beat keeper Matt Glennon.

Stockport had chances to equalise, but Anthony Pulis fired wide at the near post and Greg Tansey forced a save out of Chris Dunn.

Northampton sub Jacobs secured the points in the 75th minute, curling past Glennon from a tight angle.

Northampton No.2 Malcolm Crosby said: β€œIt was a chance for us to move up the table with so few other games being played, so we’re pleased.”

Stockport manager Paul Simpson groaned: β€œConfidence was already low after recent results and once we fell behind we had a mountain to climb.”
