Wrexham came from behind to beat Championship leaders Coventry City 3-2 on Friday night, but one of their star summer signings wants to see more from his team-mates

Wrexham's Josh Windass has called on his team-mates to maintain their momentum following their stunning victory over Coventry, after expressing frustration at the club's slow start to the season. The Red Dragons faced off against the undefeated Championship leaders on Friday night, sitting in 16th place and coming off the back of a disappointing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Cardiff City earlier in the week.
Despite a bright start in the home match against Coventry, Phil Parkinson's side found themselves trailing in the 22nd minute when Ephron Mason-Clark netted for the visitors. However, a second-half hat-trick from striker Kieffer Moore saw Wrexham pull off a shock win, with Tatsuhiro Sakamoto's late goal unable to save Frank Lampard's team from seeing their six-match winning run come to an end.
Windass, who made the move to the Welsh club from Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer in the summer, was the provider for all three of Moore's goals in the 3-2 victory. The outspoken forward, son of Hull legend Dean Windass, expressed satisfaction with the result, which saw Wrexham climb to 11th in the table at the final whistle.
However, he stressed the need for more wins to propel them further up the standings, accusing his team-mates of lacking confidence and likening their early-season performance to that of a "lower league team."
Delivering a frank verdict on the Hollywood-backed club's form so far, Windass said: "I think there's a sense that we need to improve. We've got a top team for the level. We've come up from League One and a lot of the team has changed, but we still have a team that can definitely compete at the top of this league.

But hopefully we can change that round and get that mentality into the group."
Windass was among 13 new signings who arrived at the Racecourse Ground over the summer as part of a £33million recruitment drive backed by Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac. The Hollywood duo have made no secret of their ambition to reach the Premier League, a goal the 31-year-old shares.
However, before Friday, Wrexham had managed just three victories alongside five draws and four losses from their first 12 fixtures in the second tier following promotion from League One last season. Windass has never been afraid to speak his mind and sparked controversy in May after harshly describing a former Sheffield Wednesday youngster as "the worst player ever" in a podcast interview.
The attacker, who has netted four goals and provided three assists in his opening 10 league outings for Wrexham, has called on his team-mates to show greater self-belief and maintain the level of performance displayed against Coventry.
"We've had a few poor results and not many wins so to beat the top of the league [team] tonight was obviously a bonus," said Windass. "I think it was more about the fact of not respecting them too much.

"I've played at this level for quite a while, and there's much of a muchness between the teams, to be honest. We just had the belief that we have better players than them and we could go out and win."
He also praised hat-trick hero Moore, adding: "I've actually played with Kieffer before, so I know his game quite well. He's massive so you just have to kick it at his head and he should have a chance to score.
"There's not many better at this level than him at the back post. He actually had an easier header at Middlesbrough [last weekend] that he should have scored and tonight he scored a harder one."
