Bayern Munich were brought down to earth with a bump by Bochum on Saturday, having led 2-0 only to collapse to a 3-2 defeat - and Vincent Kompany was not happy

Vincent Kompany let rip at his Bayern Munich players after their collapse against Bochum.

For the first time in 18 years, Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen all LOST on the same day in the Bundesliga. And Bayern’s former Burnley boss was furious at the manner of his side’s collapse.

Die Roten appeared to be cruising to victory with Raphael Guerriero scoring twice in the opening half hour. Serge Gnabry could have made it 3-0 with a penalty but missed - and that’s where things started to go wrong.

Jakov Medic got one back for Bochum before Joao Palhinha, the former Fulham midfielder, was sent off before half-time. The Portuguese received a red card for a rash challenge on Giorgos Masouras. And Bochum made them pay, with second-half goals from Ibrahima Sissoko and Matu Bero handing the 16th place side an unexpected win.

And Kompany, visibly frustrated lashed out at full-time.

"Congratulations to VfL. It's very unpleasant for us," he told reporters. "We started well, but we must never get a red card. But even with 10 men we have to win this game or at least not lose. That didn't happen today.

“We are not looking for excuses or apologies, we lost. We will analyse it and must take responsibility for it. It is important that we concentrate on the reaction.

“Even with 10 men, we must have the ambition to win the game or at least not to lose. We did not manage that. Bochum deserves to feel that they have won, I know how much energy it takes to do that. For us, it is now about the next game.”

Kompany also offered his view on the red card, insisting: "It was a red card. It's an unnecessary discussion.

"We got a red card, we lost. We don't need to talk so much. We lost and we have to react on the pitch now. Of course we're angry. The reaction to that is important now."

Bayern head to Leverkusen to face Xabi Alonso’s men in the Champions League on Tuesday, leading 3-0 from the first leg.
