Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has been linked with a potential £300million takeover of his hometown club Vancouver Whitecaps.
Fans of the Canadian MLS franchise have been begging the Hollywood star to put together a consortium to buy-out the current ownership regime after they made it clear they are willing to listen to offers.
Even the Whitecaps’ own social media team took to X to appeal to Reynolds when he was given the Order of Canada award late last year. Now speculation is growing that Reynolds could be interested following reports in the North American media that a deal may happen.
The 48-year-old Deadpool actor has fallen in love with football since transforming Wrexham’s fortunes after teaming up with fellow movie megastar Rob McElhenney to buy the North Wales club for £2million in 2021.

Reynolds and McElhenney have an ambition to take the Red Dragons all the way to the Premier League and are prepared to bankroll their dream. But the pair have other sporting interests.
They joined a consortium that includes actress Eva Longoria and baseball ace Justin Verlander to take a minority stake in Mexican outfit Club Necaxa last year. And Reynolds briefly looked at a proposition to support a bid to buy NHL club Ottawa Senators.
The prospect of owning the Whitecaps will be a tempting one. Wrexham played the MLS side in a pre-season friendly last year. And while the asking price would dwarf the investment made in Wrexham, the Vancouver club are valued at No 28 out of 29 clubs in the league.
Vancouver finished eighth in the MLS Western Conference last season, but they were knocked out of the MLS Cup play-offs in round one after losing a best-of-three series to Los Angeles FC. La Galaxy went on to lift the trophy, beating New York Red Bulls 2-1 in the MLS Cup final.
