Ruben Amorim has immediately made plans after being sacked by Manchester United and was not surprised by the club's decision to wield the axe following the draw with Leeds

Ruben Amorim is leaving the United Kingdom following Manchester United's decision to give him the axe. The Portuguese coach is set to jet off to gather his thoughts and is already back with his family.

Amorim was sacked on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after his stunning outburst after United's draw with Leeds. The decision to part ways was already made before that fixture, it is said.

The 40-year-old was unsurprised to be given his marching orders from Old Trafford and wants to resume his managerial career 'soon' according to Sky Sports. Amorim is said to have remained confident that his side would have qualified for the Champions League and that United's form would improve when their players return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

It appears that Amorim's relationship with the club's hierarchy became untenable, however. The dismissed head coach highlighted the club's lack of plans in the transfer window and declared that he wanted to be treated as a 'manager' during his final press conference.

"I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United. That is clear," Amorim said.

"I know that my name is not Tuchel, is not Conte, is not Mourinho, but I'm the manager of Manchester United. It's going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decided to change."

Amorim is claimed to have felt that United needed one or two experienced signings in January, and plans to stick to his principles. That approach appears to have gone against what was feasible at Old Trafford.

"I have the feeling if we have to play a perfect 3-4-3, we need to spend a lot of money and we need time," he said in December. "I'm starting to understand that is not going to happen. So, maybe I have to adapt."

"The transfer window is not going to change," Amorim declared last week. "We have no conversation to have any change in the squad. There's a process, there's an idea - that's going to continue."

Amorim previously admitted that he sometimes has 'another idea' than Jason Wilcox, the director of football, when it comes to recruitment and added that 'common ground' must be found before any incoming arrivals. Ultimately, their differences appear to have ended in Amorim being shown the door.
