Mason Greenwood reportedly refused to answer questions about his 2022 arrest as the forward gave a rare sit-down interview.

Greenwood was suspended by Manchester United, his club at the time, after he was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour.

The 23-year-old denied the charges and in 2023, they were ultimately dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. He left United permanently last summer, with Marseille signing him following a season-long loan with Spanish side Getafe.

Greenwood recently sat down for a rare interview with Telefoot - and the French broadcaster have revealed that he asked not to be asked about the situation and to discuss professional matters only.

He has scored 13 goals in 20 games for Marseille and Greenwood has insisted he wants to remain in France. He told Telefoot: "Stay here for many years? Of course.

"It's something I'd like to do, I want to win trophies here and play in the Champions League. It's a big ambition to be here, so yes. I had goosebumps during my first match at the Velodrome. It's exceptional.

"They sing for 90 minutes straight, I've never seen that before." Greenwood also addressed rumours of a potential reunion with his former United teammate Paul Pogba, who has been linked with a move to Marseille.

Pogba is a free agent, having left Juventus in November after his contract was terminated, and the midfielder is looking for a fresh start when he is able to return to action in March after serving a suspension for taking a banned substance.

And Greenwood says he is keen to play alongside Pogba again, insisting the 31-year-old remains a "top player". Greenwood said: "He's a great man, professional, who has taken me under his wing. He's a top player. Any team in Europe would love to have him. If he came here it would be great."
