The January transfer window has been open for 10 days and it's set to be a very busy month for Manchester United. All this comes on the back of Ruben Amorim's departure from the club, with the Portuguese gaffer getting the boot on Monday.
As well as earning money for selling players in this window, United are set to bank even more cash after inserting special clauses in deals when former players left Old Trafford. They've already made revenue from Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Fernandez and Maxi Odeyele, as well as a couple of other transfer-related clauses.
Chelsea paid United £5m to cancel their obligation to buy Jadon Sancho, with Marseille shifting another £5m to them for securing Champions League football with Mason Greenwood part of the team, which meant they purchased another 10% of his economic rights.
The total for the three aforementioned transfers and the Sancho/Greenwood details, United raked in a stunning £25.6m. However, they could be set to earn even more money in the coming months and years.
United have inserted a massive 40% sell-on clause in Greenwood's contract, which means that they'll get just under half of the fee if Marseille decide to sell him.

However, in 2022 he was charged with rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour, but these charges were dropped in 2023. Greenwood denied all allegations.
He never returned to play for United and was loaned to Getafe for the 2023/2024 season before penning a permanent deal with Marseille - where he has been playing well.
Scott McTominay, who is playing the football of his life at Napoli, left United in August 2024 and his former club have stuck a 10% sell-on clause into the contract. For a player of McTominay's calibre, this 10% could prove very valuable for United in years to come.
There is a 40% sell-on clause in Zidane Iqbal's deal, with the former Red Devil plying his trade with Utrecht in the Netherlands at the moment.
Hannibal Mejbri, who is a very highly-rated youngster too, signed for Burnley in 2024 and there's a whopping 50% sell-on clause in his deal.
There are likely to be further sell-on clauses in other contracts, so United are in line to take in a lot of cash in the next couple of windows, especially if these players are sold for large fees.
If Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee end up moving on in the January window, United would be wise to insert some large sell-on clauses in their contracts, especially Mainoo - who is a superb player with massive potential.
